Mercedes-Benz care that goes deeper than an oil change

Few cars are as dependent on software as a modern Mercedes-Benz. Air suspension, the transmission, driver assistance systems, lighting and comfort features all run through networked control modules, and many repairs require coding, initialization or a calibration before the car will work correctly. Reading a fault code is the easy part. Knowing which faults are related, which are symptoms and which software or procedure the factory calls for is where experience counts.

Turning Wrenches has worked only on European vehicles since 2013. Our master-certified technicians use OEM Mercedes-Benz diagnostic equipment, which few independent shops have, and we install OEM-quality parts and fluids that meet Mercedes-Benz specifications.

Mercedes-Benz Service A and Service B, explained

Most current Mercedes-Benz cars follow the Flexible Service System. The first visit is Service A, usually at about 10,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first, and visits then alternate between Service B and Service A. Your instrument cluster tells you which one is due.

ServiceWhat it covers
Service ASynthetic oil to Mercedes-Benz approval and a new filter, fluid level checks and corrections, tire pressure check, brake component inspection and service reminder reset
Service BEverything in Service A, plus a cabin dust filter replacement, a brake fluid exchange and a more thorough inspection

At certain intervals the car will also call for additional items, such as spark plugs, an engine air filter or transmission service. We perform them to the factory schedule and record every one, so your service history stays complete. More on fluids and schedules is on our preventive maintenance page.

Warning signs your Mercedes-Benz needs a closer look

  • The car sits lower at one corner after being parked overnight, or the suspension compressor runs often
  • An “Auxiliary battery malfunction” or other battery message in the cluster
  • Harsh, slipping or delayed shifts, or the transmission stuck in one gear
  • A burning-oil smell or oil spots where you park
  • Vibration at idle that you feel through the steering wheel or seat
  • A check engine light, rough running or hesitation when you accelerate
  • A brake wear warning or a squeal when you stop

Common Mercedes-Benz problems we repair

  • Airmatic air suspension. Air struts and air lines leak with age, and an overworked compressor eventually fails. Louisville’s summer heat is hard on a compressor that runs constantly. We find the leak rather than replacing parts until the car stays up. See our suspension and steering work.
  • Transmission faults. 7G-Tronic and 9G-Tronic automatics can develop harsh shifts or limp mode, sometimes from overdue fluid and sometimes from electronic control problems. We diagnose and service them through our transmission repair team.
  • Oil leaks. Oil filter housing and oil cooler seals, valve cover gaskets and camshaft adjuster solenoids are frequent sources. A leaking camshaft adjuster can wick oil into the wiring harness, so it’s worth fixing early.
  • Auxiliary and main battery problems. Many models use a small auxiliary battery to support the start-stop system and electronics. When it fails, it triggers warnings and odd behavior. Our battery and electrical service covers both batteries and the charging system.
  • Engine and transmission mounts that sag and transmit vibration into the cabin.
  • Coolant leaks from thermostats, water pumps, hoses and expansion tanks.
  • Brake wear. Mercedes-Benz brakes are designed for strong stopping, and pads, rotors and wear sensors are often replaced together.

Our process for Mercedes-Benz repairs

  1. Talk it through. We start with your description of the problem and the conditions when it shows up.
  2. Run a full quick test. Factory-level software reads every control module, so we see related faults together instead of chasing one code at a time.
  3. Confirm the cause. Live data, guided tests, leak and pressure testing pin down the failed part before anything is ordered.
  4. Approve the estimate. You get a written, itemized estimate that separates urgent repairs from those that can be planned. Nothing is done without your approval.
  5. Repair and initialize. We install OEM-quality parts, then code, initialize or calibrate components as Mercedes-Benz requires and road test the car.

Why Mercedes-Benz owners in Louisville choose us

You bought a Mercedes-Benz for the way it drives and the way it’s built. Our job is to keep it that way without the dealership price or the dealership wait.

  • Factory-level diagnostics and master-certified technicians who work on European vehicles every day.
  • OEM-quality parts and fluids that match Mercedes-Benz approvals, including MB 229-series engine oils.
  • A 36-month / 36,000-mile nationwide TECHNET limited warranty on most repairs.
  • Pricing often around 20% below local dealers, with an itemized estimate before any work begins.
  • Convenience. Same-day service is often available, with free loaners, shuttle or pick-up for customers in St. Matthews, Middletown, Anchorage and across eastern Jefferson County.

Your factory warranty stays protected. The federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act means maintenance at an independent shop can’t void it, provided the work follows Mercedes-Benz’s schedule and specifications, and we document every service in detail.

What is the difference between Mercedes-Benz Service A and Service B?

Service A is the basic visit: synthetic oil and filter, fluid checks, tire pressure, a brake inspection and a reminder reset. Service B includes all of that plus a cabin dust filter, a brake fluid exchange and a more thorough inspection. At Turning Wrenches, both are $195.

Why is my Mercedes sitting low after it’s parked?

A Mercedes with Airmatic air suspension that sags overnight usually has an air leak at an air strut, air line or valve block. Driving on it makes the compressor work harder and can cause it to fail. We test the system to find the leak before replacing parts.

What does “Auxiliary battery malfunction” mean on a Mercedes-Benz?

Many Mercedes-Benz models use a small second battery to support the start-stop system and electronics. The message usually means that battery is failing. We test both batteries and the charging system, then replace what’s needed.

Do you service Mercedes-AMG models?

Yes. We maintain and repair AMG 43, 53 and 63 models, using oils and parts that meet Mercedes-AMG specifications. Their brakes and cooling systems get the extra attention a high-output car needs.

Does a Mercedes-Benz need transmission service?

Yes. Transmission fluid and filter service appears as an additional item on the Mercedes-Benz maintenance schedule at certain intervals. Overdue fluid is a common contributor to harsh shifting, so we check your service history and recommend it when it’s due.

Can I skip Service A if my car seems fine?

We don’t recommend it. Service A replaces the oil your engine depends on and includes inspections that catch brake, tire and fluid problems early. Skipping it can also create gaps in your warranty records.
